We had a great time in Liberty, Missouri for Kristin and Patrick’s wedding! Kristin was the bride’s personal attendent for a wedding we photographed last year (Mark and Terra Snyder’s wedding). After seeing Shauna and I in action during Terra and Mark’s wedding, Kristin and Patrick offered us the opportunity to be their wedding photographers. We were truly honored!

Shauna started off with the bride and bridesmaids at the hotel in the morning while I started off with the groom and groomsmen at their house. We then met back up at the church for Patrick and Kristin’s “First Sight” of the day. After that, we headed out on a Crossroads Trolley for photos around Liberty and Briarcliff. After the ceremony we ended the evening at The Tuscan Room at Liberty Hills Country Club.

The cake was provided by Nellie’s Custom Cakes. The entertainment was provided by Kris Nardini of Platinum Sounds. Kristin found her dress at Bridal Extraordinaire.

The wedding album that Kristin and Patrick selected to tell the story of their wedding day is from our Inspiration album series.

Congratulations to Kristin and Patrick!!! Their wedding was selected to be highlighted as a Real Wedding on Kansas City’s The Perfect Wedding Guide’s website.

It happens without the person realizing it.

But when a man and woman who are in love begin to embrace, their bodies shift to make room for each other. They make it so the other person simply “fits.”

Those small shifts are what we call “Details of Love” and it is something that we look for during our engagement sessions and wedding day coverage. It is part of what makes “you”… “you”. It is what makes your love for each other real to those around you and, more importantly, to yourselves.

During their engagement session, Jennifer wanted to wear their matching cowboy boots since they were a birthday present from Mike. While Shauna was working with them as the primary photographer for their session, it allowed me to focus on their Details of Love. When I saw Jennifer “fit” into Mike’s arms I saw her lift the heel of her boot and I was able to capture this image.

This is one wedding that Shauna and I will always remember!

One reason is that Kellie and Michael are simply wonderful people and we were able to capture some beautiful imagery of them. Another reason is that we will always remember driving under a funnel cloud to get to the reception! On top of that, the ceremony was punctuated by appropriately timed claps of thunder! It was really awesome! Kellie and Michael took it all in stride.

Mother Nature was an uninvited guest at the wedding, but she was kind enough to leave a gift of very special memories.

We really get a kick watching our clients during their engagement sessions. Their relationship unfolds right in front of us.

Are they playful?

Are they romantic?

Which one is the shy one and which one, well, isn’t!

It is really about watching our clients and taking the time to get to know them. It is to see what is unique in their lives and what sets their love story apart from the rest.

We tell our clients that we watch for how they “kiss” without kissing.

Is it touching noses? or is it touching forheads?

It is those “little things” that really knit your lives together. Those are the things that matter. And it is that attention to our clients that make their Real Life — Real Love unique to them.

One of my most favorite aspects of being a wedding photographer is creating the bridal portrait.

Either during a separate Bridal Session a week or two before the wedding or a mini-Bridal Session on the day of the wedding, it allows us to create artwork that captures the glow of a woman in her wedding dress. Depending on the bride, the image may be more subtle and subdued. Other times, the imagery may be more punchy. It depends on the bride…and it depends on the dress.

Kansas City offers quite a few locations that can serve as beautiful settings for bridal portraits. In fact, this bridal image of Katy was supposed to have been taken at one of those beautiful outdoor locations. However, on the day of her wedding it was very hot and very humid! I’ve been asked if this image was taken in a studio–it wasn’t. We were able to carve out a small section of the church’s sanctuary to use it in creating this image.

One thing that I like doing is going back over some of our less recent weddings to see which images speak to me. It allows me to see the images in a different light so to speak. I then go back to the original, unedited image to create a fine art piece.

This image has a classical feel to it so I tried to allow that to emerge. The texture of her gown balanced against the smoothness of the marble is really brought to life by the print toning. It really has an organic feel that I miss from my days of shooting film.
